Coillte Nurseries is a division of Coillte - Ireland's state forestry company. We provide a comprehensive range of forest seed and plants for the Irish market for restocking and afforestation projects. Production also includes some 2.6 million vegetatively propagated Sitka spruce grown as part of the company's investment in improved breeding stock.
Coillte Nurseries also manages Ireland's National Tree Seed Centre which organises the collection, storage and processing of seed stocks for both the Irish and UK market.
The majority of our production is in bare root transplants and seedlings grown in four nursery centres. Coillte Nurseries embrace a culture of continuous improvement which involves staff trained in "best practice", whether in the improvement of planting stock quality or in customer service. Growing practices are being further improved through ongoing research and technology.
Coillte Nurseries is committed to sustainable environmental management in all of its operation through the adoption of an environmental management system.
With immediate effect Coillte's nurseries business will only produce and supply plants for the Forest market sector, and will operate solely on a business to business basis going forward. Nurseries have made this decision for commercial reasons. Therefore nurseries will no longer be supplying plants for the private amenity market or to the agri-business markets, or carrying hedging stocks for the retail market/REPS market. Our customers include our own parent company and external customers such as commercial nurseries, Irish forestry companies and independent professional foresters & contractors. The business has sales of approximately 21 million plants each year.
